Monis Work
Moni started in '00 with her studies in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the ETH in Zurich. After her third year she got her graduation as an "Assistant Pharmacist" and worked extensively in different Community Pharmacies beside her studies. She got a lot of experience and liked to help the customers with their health problems, but anyway, it started to bore her after a while.
After accomplishing her Master Thesis in a lab dealing with cancer research at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) and surviving the "Staatsexamen" she recognized that she liked research, and thanks to her Master Thesis supervisor, she could start an PhD Thesis at the same place. It pointed out that this was the best thing that could have happened to her! After three very interesting and stimulating years there, she graduated with a PhD in Summer '05.
After a break including traveling to Lopud and Sikkim, she started to work again at the PSI for the Quality Assurance Group and learned how to deal with GMP and FDA rules. During this time, she and Christian started to look for a job abroad, and in July '05 it got clear that she could start at P. Maness Lab at UNC as a PostDoc. So, equipped with a prospective researchers fellowship from SNF, she headed out to change from cancer research to neurobiology. Her work was further supported from a fellowship from the Roche Research Foundation for 6 months in '07, so it seems her (suggested) work made some impressions on the reviewers! Currently she submitted a paper as a first author and is contributing to another one in preparation. Keep your fingers crossed!
